Bix Jazzclub

Bix Jazzclub
On December 16, 2006, the BIX Jazzclub, named after the jazz cornetist Bix Beiderbecke, was opened in the extension of the Gustav-Siegle-Haus and in the heart of the state capital. Every year well over 20,000 visitors take advantage of the opportunity to attend 250 concerts by regional, national and international jazz greats. Jazz legends such as Wynton Marsalis, Joshua Redman, Richard Galliano, Curtis Stigers, Billy Cobham and Wolfgang Dauner have done the same since 2006, as have Helen Schneider, Till Brönner and Robben Ford.
The BIX not only offers a stage for international jazz greats and funky-poppy mainstream acts five days a week, but also young talents and is therefore particularly active when it comes to promoting young talent. Almost every Tuesday, students from the Stuttgart University of Music present their own programs from the jazz / pop courses, and so the BIX offers young musicians an excellent platform to gain stage experience and to make a name for themselves. In order to express the importance of the young artists, the "Young Lions Jazz Award" initiated by the Stuttgart Lions Club Killesberg is presented once a year at the BIX.

The modern, unique acoustics - the BIX has an excellent music system, which has been adapted to the premises in a complex process - and the well thought-out architecture also ensure a special atmosphere.

In addition to the concert evenings mentioned above, the BIX is also the venue for Stuttgart cultural festivals or joint event initiatives. Important charity events are not only held regularly at BIX (such as events in cooperation with the Stuttgart Lions Clubs or the charity gala following the Stuttgart Tweed Run).

The club is also a partner of the jazzopen, as well as an important part of the LIFT Stuttgart Night, the POPNOTPOP Festival, the Stuttgart Jazz Days, the Stuttgart Crime Days as well as a cooperation partner for the various cultural institutes in the city. The “Jazz for Children” series, which is popular with the little ones and provides a playful approach to music, also takes place regularly at BIX.

In addition to the main concert room on the ground floor, which can seat approx. 80 guests and over 100 bar and standing places, there is an elegant smoking area with its own bar on the gallery (a total of up to 250 guests can enjoy the ambience on both levels of the BIX). Access to the lounge is - apart from appointments that are occupied by external organizers - always free!

Jazz can be experienced at world-class level at BIX - and this was particularly honored in 2012 when the BIX was included in the list of the 50 best jazz clubs in the world by Down-Beat Magazine.

In addition, the BIX was awarded three times in a row in 2014, 2015 and 2016 for its excellent program with the APPLAUS (award for program planning of independent venues) of the Music Initiative, financed by the Federal Government and in particular the State Ministry for Culture and Media.

The BIX was founded by the Jazzcom e.V. association with the support of sponsors and the city of Stuttgart. In October 2009, the BIX was converted into a non-profit GmbH and since then has 20 shareholders. The management, Prof. Mini Schulz and David Wilcke, is advised by a board of trustees consisting of its chairman Ulrich Dietz, the other BIX gGmbH partners Markus Lehmann, Helmut Lohrmann, Johannes Zügel and, as the representative of the city of Stuttgart, Ms. Magdalen Pirzer. Sponsors and the city continue to support the club.
