Berlin People was founded in 2018 and is a jazz quintet based in Berlin. Saxophonist Tobias Meinhart brought together three of his longtime German peers and American jazz guitarist Kurt Rosenwinkel, who made Berlin is home.
After a first concert at the LOFT Jazzclub in Cologne, the band decided to work together continuously and record an album. Their self titled debut album was released on Sunnyside Records in 2019. It was celebrated by the press and made it into the first round of the Grammys.
Berlin People’s core sound is based on experimental improvisation while combining American Jazz tradition with a European approach. All band members bring in their own, personal roots to explore different sonic rivers.

Berlin People was founded in 2018 and is a jazz quintet based in Berlin. Saxophonist Tobias Meinhart brought together three of his longtime German peers and American jazz guitarist Kurt Rosenwinkel, who made Berlin is home.

The rhythm section of Berlin People includes bassist Tom Berkmann along with pianist Ludwig Hornung and drummer Mathias Ruppnig, all highly respected Berlin-based musicians and composers.

In spring 2019, the band played a three week tour through Europe which covered those illustrious clubs such as Duc des Lombards (Paris), Jamboree (Barcelona), Zig Zag (Berlin) and Unterfahrt (Munich).

In 2021, Berlin People was selected as an official representative of “GERMAN JAZZ” for the Jazzahead and played a showcase concert in Bremen in May 2021. The band is planning to record a new album during summer 2021.
