Hot 5 / Martin Auer Quintett

Martin Auer Quintett

A tribute to Louis Armstrong? Mined terrain. Usually. The respect, sometimes the reverence for his musical legacy is too great. With his powerful, earthy playing and outstanding technique, Armstrong has influenced jazz musicians to the present generation.

The black trumpeter from New Orleans is also considered to be the inventor of modern jazz, in which the idea of collective improvisation is no longer the focus, but individual players are also allowed to solo. Armstrong was born 120 years ago and died 50 years ago.

The members of the Martin Auer Quintet took these two round anniversaries as an opportunity to pay tribute to “Satchmo” in a loving and respectful way. With »Hot 5« they have succeeded in producing a great album in every respect, with which the band - 25 years after its founding - is giving itself a very special gift.
