Jan Bierther Team

For his new team the Essen based guitarist Jan Bierther brought together some the most imaginative musicians living in Germany's Ruhrgebiet (Ruhr area).

Their references include concerts with e. g. with Ute Lemper, Helge Schneider, Roberto Blanco, Paul Kuhn, Silvia Droste and innumerable record releases.

They play modern jazz. Modern jazz with vocals.

The female singer's voice is also used as an instrument and is fully and equally integrated into the line-up of vibraphone, electric bass, drums and guitar. With a great deal of respect for the jazz tradition the Quintet does, to a large extent, without strenuous solo duels and plays alongside some self-penned new arrangements of jazz standards, original compositions which are sure set to upset disturb purists of all sorts.

In 2001 the press wrote about the Bandleader's trio: "again and again there were surprising changes in musical direction which ensured that the listener's attention was held throughout the entire concert. The public could never really feel safe, hovering in a sort of twilight consciousness, trying to be audibly ready for that which was next to come. "
